Maple Apple Crumble.
Ingredients
1 cup plus 2 tablespoons flour
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
2 teaspoon lemon rind ( grated finely)
Pinch of salt
7 tablespoons chilled butter
5 granny smith or pippin apples
1 tablespoon maple syrup.
Directions.
In large bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, lemon rind and salt. Cut 5 tablespoons of butter into pieces and rub the butter pieces into the flour mixture with your fingertips to creae coarse rumbs. Freeze mixture for about 20 minutes.
Peel, core and chop the apples into bite sized piees. Melt remaining 2 tablespoons of butter in a skillet. Add apples and cook over medium low heat for 10 minutes. Cover and cook for 5-10 minutes longer, untill tender. Add syrup, inrease heat and cook untill apples begin to armelize.
Place apples in bowl and keep warm. In a clean skillet pour in flour mixture and ook over medium heat untill mixture is golden brown, about 5 minutes. Top apples with the crumble and serve.
You can also add in 1 oz of walnuts to the crumble mixture and serve with french vanilla ice cream as a bonus treat.
